Stress - Effects On Egg Quality

The eggshell is essentially the packaging for the egg. The egg takes 20-24 hours to be laid. During the development stage it is critical that the birds are free from stress otherwise defects such as shell markings, discoloration and blemishes appear, making the egg a financial loss. The type of stress, timing and the duration of the problem can all effect the severity of the problem. Keep stress levels to a minimum for laying hens to cut down on seconds which will of course effect your profit.

Stress

Stress can be a major factor in reducing production. It can be induced by many factors including transportation, handling, noise, food composition i.e. old/stale component parts of the feed (mould etc), mites & even low grade water. A good rule when it comes to water is ask yourself, could you, & would you drink it? If not it is time to upgrade the source.

For stress we recommend our Avian Stress Relief Remedy. Just a small amount in the water can avoid upsetting your poultry when moving or handling them.
